4 ways to easily access the mikrotik router

How to access a mikrotik router - in this article I will explain how to access a mikrotik router that is still default or still factory settings, we haven't set it or a proxy router that we reset. Inside the router board, the mikrotik has a default IP address configuration setting, namely on Ethernet 1 with the IP address = 192.168.88.1, and for the user login, User: admin, Password: {blank}.

There are several ways that we can use to access the mikrotik router, including using Winbox, SSH, Telnet, and Webfig. We can also access the Mikrotik router via Android using the Tik-App application software which we can download in the Play Store.

How to Access Mikrotik Router

1. Via Winbox

First I will give an example of how to access the router board using winbox. What is winbox? Winbox is an application software that was officially launched by Mikrotik. Winbox is a utility that is used to remotely our proxy devices in GUI (Graphical User Interface) mode. The GUI is an interface on the operating system that uses a graphical display (images appear and can be clicked) and can be controlled using several types of input devices. So the easiest way to access a mikrotik router is to use winbox, because winbox is an application so we can just click on it. If you don't have the Winbox application yet, you can download it at www.mikrotik.com

Ok, now we will start the lab..

The first step we have to do is open the Winbox application by double clicking or right clicking then selecting run administrator.

If you use the Winbox application, you can access the Mikrotik router using the IP address or MAC address.

Click Neighbors > Refresh > Select the IP Address / Mac Address of the router that we will access. Here I will log in using the mac address, all we have to do is fill in the user password with the default settings.

Login : admin

Password : {blank}

Then click Connect.

Then the initial winbox display will appear as shown in the image below.

2. Via Webfig

What is a webfig.? webfig is a tool / utility for configuring a mikrotik routerboard via a web browser. We can access Webfig directly from the router and without the need for additional software or applications {except browser applications}.

Because this webfig is independent, it allows us to configure routers directly using various mobile devices without the need for specific software.

Webfig is designed in such a way as to be used as an alternative to winbox with the ability to access the same router features using winbox.

Webfig can also be run from the browser homepage which can be accessed by entering the IP address of our mikrotik router by entering the URL in the browser.

Continue to the steps...

First we open the web browser application {here I use chrome}

Then in place of the URL we fill in the ip address of our router which is 192.168.88.1 {the default ip}

Fill in the login webfig with

Login : admin

Password : {blank} <= default

Then click Login.

After a successful login, the initial appearance of the webfig will appear as shown below.

After entering into webfig, we can start configuring our mikrotik router device.

3. Via Telnet

What is telnet.? telnet stands for Telecommunication Network Protocol, is a remote login method that occurs on the internet network due to the telnet protocol service. With telnet, it allows users to be able to remotely access the mikrotik router via the internet network, telnet uses the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) protocol with its port, namely port 23.

Continue to the steps...

First we open CMD (Command Prompt)

Then we enter the command telnet 192.168.88.1 (default ip router)

Then press Enter.

After pressing enter, a login user will appear as shown below.

We fill in the user login

Login : admin

Pssword : {blank} <= default

then press Enter.

After entering the Mikrotik CLI (Command Line Interface), we can set the settings according to our needs.

NOTES.!

Not all Windows PC can telnet access to mikrotik, sometimes we need to activate the telnet feature on the PC manually so we can access the router via telnet.

How to enable telnet feature on windows...

First click the Start menu, then in the search field enter the word "Turn Windows Features On or Off" then click the menu.

After it appears, we look for the "Telnet Client" feature then we check it and then we press OK.

If you have done the steps above, the installation of the telnet feature will appear, all we have to do is click Next. If the installation process is complete, the telnet feature on our PC is active and we can access our mikrotik router using telnet.

4. Via SSH

What is SSH.? SSH stands for Secure Shell which is a network protocol that utilizes cryptography to communicate data on a network device to make it more secure. We can use the function of SSH itself to replace telnet, rlogin, ftp, and rsh. One of its main functions is to ensure security in transmitting data on a network. SSH uses the TCP protocol with port 22.

Let's go straight to the steps...

Here for the SSH application that I use is the putty application.

First we open the putty application.

Here we fill

HostName : 192.168.88.1 {default ip}

Port : 22 {default ssh port}

Connection Type : SSH {filled by default}

Then click Open.

If you have entered into putty then the display will look like the display on telnet, because telnet and SSH use the CLI (Command Line Interface). After entering the putty view, we can start configuring the mikrotik router according to our needs.
